Cruz (13-7, 13 KO’s) will defend his title against undefeated Golden Boy prospect Maldonado (11-0, 10 KO’s) in the 8-round main event of the Solo Boxeo Tecate show Friday night at the Pharr Events Center sponsored by Golden Boy Promotions and Cavazos Boxing. Cruz was originally scheduled to face Weslaco native and fellow Golden Boy prospect Omar Figueroa (13-0-1, 10 KO’s) in a highly anticipated rematch in which Figueroa won by unanimous decision in June of this year. However, Figueroa injured his leg in Philadelphia last weekend and was not able to fight which disappointed Cruz. “When I heard the news that Omar was not going to be able to fight, I was extremely disappointed and mad,” said Cruz. “I trained very hard for the rematch and all I had on my mind was avenging the loss.” “However, my main focus right now is Maldonado and I can guarantee it’s going to be a [...]
CRUZ, MALDONADO PLAN ON TAKING WBC TITLE HOME is a post from: Cavazos Boxing Promotions

“But one thing I can guarantee is that the belt is coming back to Puerto Rico with me.”
Maldonado said he is very excited about getting an opportunity to face Cruz for the title and also wants to take the belt home with him.
“I never expected to get an opportunity like this. But I am excited about the opportunity to face Cruz for the title,” said Maldonado. “I have seen him fight before and plan on breaking him down piece by piece.”
“People say that there is going to be a knockout on Friday night. But one thing is for sure it’s not going to be me who is going to get knocked out. That WBC Youth title is coming home with me to New Mexico.”
